We Are Under Martial Law As Declared By The Speaker Last Night

September 28, 2008 C-SPAN

Congressman Burgess asks the Speaker of the House to post the bailout bill on the internet for at least 24 hours instead of passing the largest piece of legislation in US financial history in the “dark of night.”

The most frightening part of Rep. Burgess’ one-minute floor speech is when he says, “Mr. Speaker I understand we are under Martial Law as declared by the speaker last night.”

The former Goldman Sachs CEO even went down on one knee as if genuflecting, to which Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.) is said to have joked, "I didn't know you were Catholic."

According to the article, after Paulson told the Democrats, "Please don't blow this up," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) responded, "We're not the ones trying to blow this up. It's the House Republicans." Paulson then reportedly stated: "I know, I know; it's both sides." A September 26 Politico article, describing the same exchange, reported that "when Democrats left to caucus in the Roosevelt Room" following a meeting with President Bush at the White House, Paulson "pursued them, begging that they not 'blow up' the legislation." But the article did not include Paulson's reported acknowledgement that House Republicans bore some responsibility.

Paulson feared the deal was falling apart, sources told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.

As Democrats met in the White House's Roosevelt Room after the meeting with [President] Bush, Paulson told them, "Please don't blow this up," according to sources.

The Lobby Has Spoken: Biden and Israel

By SUSAN ABULHAWA

John McCain eclipsed the democratic convention buzz, gained women voters, simultaneously reassured middle to far right conservatives and may have positioned a female presidential candidate for the Republican ticket for future elections. It makes sense. On the other hand, the best explanations for Barack Obama's choice of Joseph Biden still don't jibe.

It's true that Mr. Biden brings some political experience to Mr. Obama's ticket, but so could many of Mr. Obama's other choices. Mr. Biden also narrows the race gap, which unfortunately still exists in America. But again, so could any of the other choices.

So, what then? Mr. Biden, the self-proclaimed Zionist, assuages Israeli and Jewish American fears that Mr. Obama might not be so accommodating to Israel.

***

Israel killed and maimed thousands of civilians, decimated civilian infrastructure, and littered Southern Lebanon with over 100,000 of the world-banned unexploded cluster bombs. Congress unequivocally approved and supported Israel's actions with this resolution, which AIPAC actually wrote! Even when a post-war analysis by the State Department was delivered to Nancy Pelosi and Mr. Biden, asserting that Israel may have violated the Arms Export Control Act with its use of American-made cluster munitions in Lebanon, bipartisan support of Israel remained unwavering.

This potentially explosive report detailing how Israel may have used American supplied weapons to commit war crimes was ignored by Mr. Biden and Mrs. Pelosi, both of whom have traveled to Israel repeatedly, along with scores of other politicians, genuflecting as they always do to extol the virtues of the Jewish State and profess undying and uncompromising support for a country that is currently in violation of at least 200 UN Resolutions and has been condemned in the harshest terms by human rights organizations worldwide.

Offshore drilling is headed for a vote
Ban in jeopardy as Democrats shift position

By Paul Kane, Washington Post | September 15, 2008

WASHINGTON - Congressional Democrats, balancing political reality against a policy they have long opposed, are on the cusp of approving legislation that would open the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to oil drilling as close as 50 miles offshore.

With votes scheduled this week in the House and Senate, Democrats have essentially given up defending the current ban on drilling within 200 miles offshore along both coasts. Instead, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, they are offering a mix of proposals that would allow drilling, with the waters off Massachusetts, Virginia, and Georgia most likely to be the first affected.

Environmentalists and industry analysts disagree over the impact the various legislative proposals would have on oil production, with industry experts contending that the most precious reserves still would be off-limits. But both sides agree that because of the politics of $4-a-gallon gasoline this summer and a pending legislative deadline, the nearly 40-year drilling ban is in jeopardy.

Here in Denver this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been heckled by fellow Democrats nearly everywhere she goes. It's to the point that before a breakfast "conversation" this morning hosted by Politico and Yahoo News, the audience was warned that any disruptions or demonstrations would result in immediate ejection from the sunny rooftop event.

Hecklers are usually angry about Pelosi's failure to end the war in Iraq.

Elected on the promise to end the war, Pelosi and her Democrats have instead voted repeatedly to fund it until the next administration. Even more galling to the anti-war crowd is that there are even more troops in Iraq under Pelosi's Congress than there ever were during Republican Congresses.

A major CodePINK for Peace action disrupted the Unconventional Women symposium Monday morning, delaying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's talk with former U.S. Ambassador Swanee Hunt at the Buell Theater.

When Pelosi sat down on stage, CodePINK protestors who had infiltrated the sold-out auditorium unfurled anti-war banners reading "IMPEACH!" and "STOP THE WAR" and shouted at Pelosi.

"Nancy, you lied to my face," one yelled. "Do your job!" said another.

KUSA - Denver Police evacuated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from the Grand Hyatt hotel in Denver Saturday after a man carrying two long rifles and two handguns walked into the lobby of the hotel.

Denver Police spotted the man, Joseph Calanchini, 29, of Pinedale, Wyo., walking through the hotel Saturday around 4 p.m. He is not a registered guest at the hotel, according to Grand Hyatt General Manger Ed Bucholtz.

Calanchini told police he is in Denver on business and is planning a safari to Africa. Police say Calanchinihad just had two of his rifles scoped at a nearby gun shop and carried them in cases through the hotel lobby, where Pelosi is staying, according to Lt. Ron Saunier, Denver Police Spokesman.

Pelosi censors poster of troops

Bruce Fein

Friday, August 22, 2008

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-S.F., has done something worse than commit a crime against the First Amendment. The speaker's censorship of nonobtrusive posters featuring men and women who gave that last full measure of devotion in service to their country is a blunder that could alienate 23 million veterans and their families from the Democratic Party. If she is endowed with a crumb of constitutional or political sense, she will reverse course. The tale of Pelosi's folly begins with Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C. He wished to pay tribute to the service members of Camp Lejeune who had been killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Accordingly, Walter placed a poster flat against the wall in the corridor outside his office showing their names and pictures. It was altogether fitting that Jones saluted the fallen soldiers on congressional premises. Congress authorized the wars that occasioned their tragic deaths. Congress appropriated the money that dispatched them to mortal danger. The posters communicated to congressional visitors that war is a combination of heroism and hell. Voters would leave with more informed judgments about the costs of the twin wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There was no tension between Jones' wall poster and the ordinary use of the House Rayburn Office Building to host direct communications between Members of the House and the public. On one occasion, for instance, a mother from Minnesota entered Jones' office with tears in her eyes to thank him for displaying the picture of her son who had been killed while serving the nation.

On the Hill

By CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON -- Setting out to promote her new motivational book, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi probably did not realize she was simultaneously embarking on her why-haven’t-you-impeached-the-president tour.

But as she made the coast-to-coast rounds of lectures, television interviews and radio chats the past two weeks, Ms. Pelosi found herself under siege by people unhappy that she has not been motivated to try to throw President Bush out of office – even if only a few months remain before he leaves voluntarily.

In Manhattan and Los Angeles, at stops in between, on network television and on her home turf of Northern California, Ms. Pelosi has been forced to defend her pronouncement before the 2006 mid-term elections that impeachment over the administration’s push for war in Iraq was off the table.

WTF!?

I found all this post’s quotes (& pics) on a blog called rockthetruth
Pelosi was promoting her new book and:

American University of Judaism’s Rabbi Robert Wexler, who moderated the 75 minute discussion, asked Pelosi to analyze a recent Rasmussen poll that found nine percent of voters polled believed Congress was doing a good job, far lower than President Bush’s overall approval rating.

She answered to vote for Obama:

[...]“Whether it’s the deficit or the challenges to the constitution we have to dig our way out,” Pelosi said, adding

“this election is like death for life on this planet as we know it today.”

She should know, it sounds about right, but we don’t know exactly what she was thinking about when she said it. Probably at least that the whole election is a staged show, with a lot more war planned. And that as she has learned, no politician can change anything nor stand up to the Military Industrial Complex.

S.O.S. from CINDY SHEEHAN

Pelosi challenger Cindy Sheehan had 43.5 percent of her signatures challenged. If you're in CA's 8th district, she needs your signature by Friday!

Dear Everyone, - - S.O.S. from CINDY SHEEHAN!

After camping with my family in a redwood grove for two days, I have just tonight returned and found an incredibly disturbing email from Cindy Sheehan <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/>. Cindy and her team submitted two thousand more signatures than needed in order for her name to be listed on the ballot in her November run against Nancy Pelosi. But now the San Francisco Department of Elections has "challenged" an almost unbelievable percentage of those signatures -- 43.5 percent! -- and is demanding that Sheehan collect another 2,116 valid signatures before 5 pm Friday in order to qualify for the ballot. It's a very fishy development, especially coming so late in the game, and it yet again raises all sorts of questions about the integrity of our elections, but that's a discussion for another time (see below*)... Nonetheless, Cindy believes that she can still get the needed valid signatures in time, but she really, really needs our help. What can we do?

1 -- Go to Cindy's website <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/> and follow the instructions for making sure that you and your friends and neighbors have signed her petition <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/>. OR If you are a registered San Francisco voter, please make a special trip to Cindy's office <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/article.php?list=type&type=11> at 1260 Mission St (between 8th and 9th Streets) as soon as possible and sign her petition -- if you have not already done so. (Cindy's office is just four and a half blocks from the site of Wednesday's WorldCantWait "freeze <http://www.sfbaycantwait.org/ >" action described below.) Also, please take a petition <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/> and collect the signatures of your friends and neighbors who are registered to vote in San Francisco and return it promptly to Cindy's office <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/article.php?list=type&type=11>.
2 - Wednesday, Aug 6, Hiroshima Day, has been designated as a "money-bomb" day for Cindy <https://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/1590/t/2705/shop/custom.jsp?donatepagekey=1901>. The campaign particularly needs money now to hire professional signature gatherers, and, once this hurdle is passed, to help get Cindy's message <http://www.cindyforcongress.org/article.php?list=type&type=13> out. To donate <https://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/1590/t/2705/shop/custom.jsp?donatepagekey=1901> -- and please do -- please go here <https://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/1590/t/2705/shop/custom.jsp?donatepagekey=1901>.
  • (I've been a fan of San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom ever since he began his political career by wading into the jungle of the San Francisco taxicab industry, but tonight this sentence from a 2003 San Francisco Chronicle profile of Newsom <http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/02/23/mn245262.dtl> haunts me and makes my head start to wobble back and forth: "His aunt was married to the brother-in-law of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, the House minority leader" (and now, of course, the Speaker of the House and Cindy's opponent in November). - - - FREEZE ACTION -- 5 pm, Market and Powell, SF, Today!
I also returned home to an email from World Cant Wait, saying that they've received emails from a number of people for whom the 5pm start time of today's "Freeze" action <http://www.sfbaycantwait.org/> is just a bit too early (they're coming from work). So World Can't Wait is planning a second, slightly later, Freeze that should accommodate late comers. The upshot: Come as close to 5 pm as you can, and you should still get in on the "frozen" action. Details here. <http://www.sfbaycantwait.org/>
And regarding the "after" action that I mentioned in my last email -- I simply need about a dozen or more people (all are invited) to help me figure out camera angles and logistics and to try to envision any possible glitches for an action I intend to take place during the next week-to-month or so. If you're coming to the Freeze, please look for me -- I'll be passing out a flyer with details. I could use about ten-maybe-fifteen minutes of your time immediately following the Freeze. Any questions, please call me or email -- I'll do my best to get back to you. - - All the very best,

Now, Pelosi, After this Smoking Gun, Will You Call for Impeachment?

By Matthew Rothschild, August 5, 2008

Somebody please send Nancy Pelosi a copy of Ron Suskind’s latest book, “The Way of the World.”

Remember, Pelosi said last week that if anyone could demonstrate that Bush had broken any laws, then impeachment might be a different story.

Never mind that she apparently hasn’t bothered to read Dennis Kucinich’s 35-count bill of impeachment, or the violations of the laws, treaties, and the Constitution that Kucinich’s bill refers to..

Nancy Pelosi is currently serving as the Speaker of the House... despite much of her talk about opposing President Bush's agenda and standing behind the Constitution, Mrs. Pelosi's record speaks for itself! She voted for the PATRIOT act, voted for every bill funding a war she supposedly is against, and has also even voted against legislation that would protect the 4th Amendment. It is also key to mention that Mrs. Pelosi is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a global think tank which has publicly stated that it wants to destroy national sovereignty.

Nancy Pelosi was brought into the House in order to push for impeachment as well as an end to the war in Iraq... to date, she has done none of this!

Recently, members of WeAreCHANGE confronted Mrs. Pelosi at the New York Times Center in Manhattan about these facts.
