During DNC coverage, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough was waxing ebullient over the gains made by McCain, when Keith Olberman muttered "Jesus, Joe, why don't you get a shovel?" It was likely an open mic problem, but at least Olbermann owned up to it and defended saying it as you'll see.

Keith Olbermann warns America that the Bush Administration is attempting to manufacture phony evidence linking American deaths in Iraq to weapons supplied by Iran. Why would they do this? Well, to justify attacking Iran, for starters.

YOU DO REALIZE, THEY ARE MAKING THIS UP ABOUT IRAN!

Please keep this video in mind in case the Bush (or, god forbid, McCain) Administration claims that Iran launched a terrorist attack on America somehow. It's clear that the Republican war profiteers want an excuse to invade Iran, and it's clear that they are willing to manufacture any excuse to do so.

MSNBC, Countdown with Keith Olbermann August 20, 2008.

Discussion of whether or not John McCain would re-instate the draft if elected. When asked this unexpected question at one of his tightly controlled and heavily scripted "town meetings", McCain became uncomfortable and quickly dodged and weaved into a different topic.

It's very important that everyone, everywhere ask McCain whether he would re-instate the draft.

Think about it, a kid who is 14 today may be drafted into one of McCain's wars during his first term!

CBS edits McCain's interview so he doesn't get it utterly wrong by using footage from another question, instead of the one he was asked.

McCain's Mixed-Up Timeline

22 Jul 2008 11:58 pm

To repeat something mentioned below, John McCain told Katie Couric that the surge caused the Anbar Awakening:

***

Meanwhile, as Keith Olbermann apparently noted in tonight's broadcast, CBS (part of the vast media conspiracy that McCain believes is arrayed against him) handled McCain's blunder by using misleading editing to cover it up: "CBS curiously, to say the least, left it on the edit room floor. It aired Katie Couric's question, but in response, it aired part of McCain's answer to the other question instead." Sometimes things have to end up on the cutting room floor in television, but it seems to me that if you show video of a question being asked, you ought to cut to the interviewee answering that question not just show some other film. Certainly when you've got a candidate who's made the idea that he's super-knowledgeable about national security policy misstating the basic facts of the issue that seems noteworthy.

Keith Olbermann says a potential terror attack between now and the November 2008 election might be the Republican Party's "October Surprise." (If you don't know what the term "October surprise" means, it refers to a dirty trick used by a political campaign at the last minute to swing an election in their favor.)

This is the most direct implication I've seen from the mainstream media that the next terror attack might be an inside job "false flag" event used by the Republicans to retain power and swing the election toward John McCain.

Closing Enron Loophole Would Drop Oil Prices 25% - 50% Overnight

Obama calls for closing 'Enron loophole'

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones

The debate over how to bring down energy prices has occupied the center of the political stage in recent days, as drivers across the nation face sky-high gas prices, which in turn are driving up costs of food and other goods. Obama campaign's said today that he plans to ease the impact of rising gas prices by cracking down on excessive energy speculation through closing the so-called “Enron Loophole.”

VIDEO: What are the presidential candidates' positions on energy and taxes? NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports on the latest in politics, including recent polling numbers.

On the 25-minute call were New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, economic policy director Jason Furman, and energy adviser Elgie Holstein, who was chief of staff at the Department of Energy during the Clinton Administration. The overall theme was a common one -- that McCain is out of touch with the concerns of working people and more in touch with those of big business. Today, they applied that argument to the issue of energy policy.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) — A former UBS executive has pleaded guilty in a U.S. tax case that is part of a wide-ranging probe into whether the Swiss banking giant helped wealthy clients hide assets and evade taxes.

Bradley Birkenfeld entered the plea of guilty to one count of conspiring to defraud the United States in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. The 43-year-old had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed that plea Thursday and in an agreement with prosecutors said he would offer assistance in the wider probe. The charge carries a potential five-year prison term and $250,000 in fines.

Birkenfeld worked for UBS AG from 2001 to 2006. Prosecutors say he and others helped a California real estate magnate hide $200 million in assets in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, helping the developer evade $7.2 million in taxes.
