LAKE TWP.: A single-prop, private airplane crashed next to a vacant house on Charolais Street Northwest Friday evening, exploding into flames and killing the pilot.
Michael Connell, 45, of Bath Township, was alone in the plane, according to State Highway Patrol Lt. Eric Sheppard.
Connell was a prominent Republican political consultant. He founded New Media Communications in Richfield, which developed campaign Web sites for Republican presidential candidate John McCain and President George W. Bush.

White smoke emerged from the tribal campfire on Rosh Hashanah Eve, announcing Channel 2 News' choice for man of the year. Commentators from the most popular and influential media outlet in the country announced their decision after holding a shallow and absurd discussion. "[He is] a man who has done only good," political analyst Emmanuel Rosen said of the selection, speaking on behalf of judging panel. Who is this rare and illustrious person who did so much good? Mossad chief Meir Dagan. An excited Rosen added: "[He is] a man who would cut the throats of terrorists with his own hands, using a box-cutter - a man of action with a knife in his teeth."
By way of supporting their decision they presented a "rare journalistic achievement": a glimpse of a meeting between our hero Dagan and outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The images echoed Communist Romania or North Korea: Olmert hosting Meirkeh, as the Mossad head is called by U.S. President George Bush, in his office. Both said very little in front of the cameras. "You did well," the prime minister said to Rosen, about the recognition. Then two character witnesses were called in. Major Gen. (res.) Yossi Ben Hanan spoke about how Dagan once killed a terrorist with his own hands, though of course he did not specify how, and reminisced about how they had once traveled together in the Far East. National Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer added: "I recommend that you don't get too close to him - I suggest your story had best be favorable."
Later the panel made intimations about his doings in the past year: The killing of senior Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh in Damascus, a few more mysterious and unnecessary killings and, of course, the bombing of the alleged nuclear site in Syria, operations that they said should make Meirke deserving of "at least 10 Israel Prizes."

Ukraine president survives air scare, 'seizes' rival's plane

KIEV (AFP) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko was forced into an emergency landing Thursday and seized the aircraft of his bitter political foe, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who had to find another plane.
The aircraft that was carrying the pro-Western Ukrainian head of state had to abandon its journey from Kiev to the western city of Lviv because of "technical problems," the president's office told AFP.
"The president's plane made an emergency landing at Borispol airport due to technical problems 20 minutes after take-off," spokeswoman Irina Vannikova said, adding: "Nobody was injured."

Is Mossad responsible for delaying Iran's attainment of nuclear capability?

Every Thursday, Mossad chief Meir Dagan and a few of his staff members report to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office in the old Defense Ministry building in the Kirya in Tel Aviv, to present an operation for approval or report on one that has taken place. Olmert loves these moments more than any others in his job. He wants to know the details, to see the faces of the soldiers before the operation. He usually approves Dagan's proposals.
Over the past two years Dagan has become the most important security official close to the prime minister. His evaluations on the Second Lebanon War and the Mossad's cumulative achievements vis-a-vis Iran, Syria and Hezbollah have strengthened his status and led Olmert to approve more and more daring missions.
During Sunday's cabinet meeting, in which Olmert announced his resignation, he said: "I believe the processes the government of Israel has enacted under my leadership in various areas, those that can be told and those that cannot, will yet receive their proper place in the history of the State of Israel."

Arab country 'cooperates with Mossad'

The Israeli spy agency Mossad may have used intelligence provided by an Arab country to carry out assassinations in the region.
Israeli sources confirmed on Monday that Mossad chief Meir Dagan's reliance on cooperation with an Arab country was the reason behind the successful completion of Israeli operations in various countries, IRNA reported.
The Arab country does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, the sources added.
Among the operations attributed to the Israeli regime is the assassination of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement's top commander Imad Mughniyah and Syrian army officer Brigadier-General Mohammed Suleiman.

Two French biochemical students, Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, were murdered by Israeli Mossad-British intelligence assassination teams on June 29, 2008. Both Bonomo and Ferez were studying at the prestigious London Imperial College researching the origins of bird flu and the link to the alleged vaccines.
The murders were first revealed by France’s Directorate for Internal Security, not by Britain’s Scotland Yard, making it likely that the students were French intelligence officers. London police arrested Daniel Sonnex, 23, and Nigel Edward Farmer in the killings.
A joint French-U.S. Intelligence anti-terrorist task force in Paris, headed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and former head of French intelligence Jean Crout�, for years has monitored the activity of the Israeli mercenaries. The patriotic American-French team has allegedly prevented various scripted terrorist attacks, i.e. false flags, on both the United States and Europe, with the planning of the attacks actually originating inside the compromised intelligence agencies of the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and Germany, according to task force sources.

Kennedy, as he contemplated his own run for the presidency in 1965, that "some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies."
It might be worth asking Governor Palin for a tally of the other favorites from her reading list.

Shaul Mofaz, the Israeli Transportation Minister, stated Friday that Israel should reinstate a policy of massive extrajudicial assassinations in the Palestinian Territories, much like the policy under former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

While assassinations of Palestinians have not ended under the Prime Ministership of Ehud Olmert, there are not as many as there were under Ariel Sharon, who was Prime Minister from 2000 – 2006 until he fell into a coma.
Extrajudicial assassinations are a direct violation of international law and of signed agreements, as they target 'wanted' individuals without giving them a right to a trial, and also causes civilian deaths in almost every instance. Israel carries out these assassinations through missile strikes from airplanes, usually targeting cars carrying 'wanted' individuals. Given that the Gaza Strip (one of the two Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories) is one of the most crowded places on earth, this nearly always results in the killing of bystanders, often children.
In response to the statement by Mofaz, the spokesman for the Islamic Jihad, Ibrahim An-Najjar stated, that this indicates a coming “wave of assassinations and aggression” against the Palestinian people.

PAGHMAN, Afghanistan (AFP) — A remote-controlled bomb blew up the vehicle of a provincial governor Saturday killing him and three other men near Kabul, officials said, in an attack claimed by Taliban rebels.
Mohammad Jan Abdullah Wardak, governor of Logar province and a former cabinet minister, was assassinated near his home in the picturesque town of Paghman, about 20 kilometres (12 miles) west of the capital, officials said.
The long-time Taliban opponent was the second provincial governor to be murdered since the Islamists were removed from power in 2001 and started their insurgency.

Neo-Nazi boss Bill White, long given to swaggering threats and proposals for violence, this week went even further than normal — announcing plans for a magazine cover headlined “Kill This NIGGER?” with a photo of Barack Obama and, two days later, publishing the home address of a juror who helped convict another neo-Nazi leader in a federal conspiracy case.
White, who heads the Virginia-based American National Socialist Workers Party, has issued a series of Internet calls for violence in recent years, including his infamous September 2007 suggestion that followers “Lynch the Jena 6,” a reference to black students in Jena, La. But of late, his postings have become even more violent, possibly as a result of White’s deliberate attempts to be provocative.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The dramatic drop in violence in Iraq is due in large part to a secret program the U.S. military has used to kill terrorists, according to a new book by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward.
The program -- which Woodward compares to the World War II era Manhattan Project that developed the atomic bomb -- must remain secret for now or it would "get people killed," Woodward said Monday on CNN's Larry King Live.
"It is a wonderful example of American ingenuity solving a problem in war, as we often have," Woodward said.

Georgia has been America’s darling in the Caucasus since its charismatic and telegenic young president, Mikheil Saakashvili, took over from the nasty old Russian-style despot Eduard Shevardnadze in the fall of 2003, in what came to be called the Rose Revolution (because Saakashvili carried a rose, and not an AK-47, as he and the throngs breached the doors of the country’s parliament building). All the world (well, most of it) had high hopes for Saakashvili’s reformist, democratic, anticorruption platform.
Throughout last month’s hostilities with Russia and in the weeks since, little Georgia’s stock has only risen with the Bush administration, as well as with the mainstream press and both presidential candidates. “We are all Georgians,” John McCain said. No one in the Obama campaign demurred.
Despite — or even because of — this coalescing consensus, now may be a good time to knock a few chunks out of Saakashvili’s pedestal. While Saakashvili rightly gets credit for putting the fight against corruption at the top of his agenda (in 2004, Transparency International declared Georgia one of the most corrupt governments in the world) and for combating religious and ethnic discrimination, he and his government have also committed serious human rights abuses.

David Kelly’s mysterious death should be investigated by a coroner to establish whether the weapons inspector was murdered, the Government has been told.
The demand was made in a letter to Attorney General Baroness Scotland following revelations in The Mail on Sunday that question the Hutton Inquiry’s finding of suicide.

THE three men arrested over a reported plot to kill the US Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, have ties to the white supremacist group Aryan Nations, police said last night.
Shawn Robert Adolf, 33, Nathan Johnson and Tharin Gartrell are all said to have links to the group.
All three belong to Aryan Nations, according to Victor Ross, the police chief in Glendale, a suburb of Denver where one of the suspects was arrested. The other two were held in Aurora, another suburb.

Fifth arrest in alleged plot to kill British Prime Minister

LONDON - Police in Britain say that a fifth suspect has been arrested in an alleged plot to kill British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Greater Manchester Police say the latest suspect is a 29-year-old man arrested Tuesday in Derby in central England.
Police are still questioning three men arrested on Aug. 14.

Three men under investigation for a possible threat against Barack Obama have lengthy criminal records for illegal gun possession, drug dealing and theft. One of them told a news reporter they planned to kill the presidential candidate.
The three men, Tharin Gartrell, Nathan Johnson and Shawn Adolf, all were being sought on arrest warrants for numerous criminal crimes, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
Authorities have yet to say why they are investigating a possible threat against Obama but said the men may be connected to a white-supremacist group.

Three men were arrested in Colorado Sunday and Monday in connection with a possible assassination plot against presidential candidate Barack Obama.
One suspect, 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell, was stopped for a routine traffic stop Sunday when authorities found two rifles - including a sniper rifle - and methamphetamines in the car. Gartrell was also found to be wanted on numerous warrants. He was detained in Aurora, CO - a city approximately 25 minutes from the Denver site of the Democratic National Convention, where Senator Obama will accept the nomination for president later this week.
Local Denver news station KCNC reported that Gartrell led police to a hotel where another man, 32-year-old Nathan Johnson, was arrested. A third - Shawn Adolf, 33 - tried to jump from a six-story building to avoid capture. Adolf broke his ankle in the jump and was eventually taken into custody.
